Justin “Jayne” Conroy, assistant coach for Dallas fuel was directed to delete a tweet that was critical of Blizzard’s decision to ban Hearthstone player Chung “Blitzchung” Ng Wai and strip him from his prize earnings for supporting Hong Kong protesters, according to Dallas Morning News.
Blitzchung said during an interview on Hearthstone Grandmaster stream “liberate Hong Kong, revolution of our times,” which led Blizzard to suspend him and strip away his prize earnings.
In Jayne’s since-deleted tweet, he recognizes Blizzard’s rights to enforce its rules and condemns the censorship and consequences brought against Blitzchung.
“While I recognize the right that @Blizzard_Ent has to enforce their rules and standards on competitors such as @blitzchungHS, I condemn the censorship and severity of consequences brought against an individual who was campaigning for a human rights social movement.” Jayne tweeted.
Additionally, people online have spread the #BoycottBlizzard asking people to boycott all Blizzard titled games, and have taken Mei as a symbol of the Hong Kong resistance.
Mei is an Overwatch character from Xi’an, China, was chosen as symbol for Hong Kong. A photo shopped image of her was posted on Reddit r/HongHong supporting the protesters, since then hundreds of different images of Mei are spreading on social media in support of Hong Kong.
