According to Riot Associate Program Manager Mel Capperino-Garcia, the League of Legends North American server reached 90 percent capacity due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Riot Games are rushing to increase server capacity, and have whitelisted league Partners and pro-player accounts so they wouldn’t suffer from extended queue times.

“Today NA servers hit about 90% max capacity. As a result, we expect login queues and extended queue times. While we rush to scale up server capacity, we’ve whitelisted all League Partners and pro-player accounts, allowing these players to bypass queues.” Capperino-Garcia said in a tweet.

Capperino-Garcia also added that the reason behind the decision to whitelist partners and professional players is in case players can’t access the game, they could at least watch their favorite streamer.

The reason behind the sudden increase in active players is due to players stuck at home because of the COVID-19 pandemic, which has affected most of the countries in the world.
