Pokémon Sword and Shield are among the fastest-selling Nintendo games of all time, with more the 6 million copies sold worldwide during launch weekend.
Additionally, the games sold over 2 million copies in the first two days of their launch in the U.S.
Both games came out on November 15, and since then the games have skyrocketed in sales, beating the popular game Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s first-week performance by 5 million copies sold.
“This past weekend, millions of people began their Pokémon journeys through the new Galar region,” said Nick Chavez, Nintendo of America’s Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing. “With such a momentous launch, Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield have proven to be two of the must-have games this holiday season.”
Both games also outperformed the first week of Pokémon Let’s Go titles that came out last year.
Let’s Go Pikachu and Let’s Go Eevee sold a combined 3 million copies in its first week.
Even though fans complained that Sword and Shield are missing a lot of Pokémons and the graphics aren’t up to the standards, the games have been performing outstandingly and players are enjoying their experience.
The success of both games is without a doubt a huge boost to Nintendo heading into the holiday season.
