According to a report, Microsoft has its eyes set on acquiring the communication platform Discord for more than $10 Billion.
Discord is a highly popular messaging service for gamers, but Discord has grown past just the gaming scene and is not adopted across other top segments, where non-gamer servers are not very popular on the platform.
“It’s hard to tell the difference between a serious acquisition attempt and a fishing expedition,” a source told GamesBeat. “It can fall apart at any time. The reality is the company is doing really well. I don’t see a reason they would want to sell. They seem to be completely in control of their destiny right now.”
Reportedly the Discord team reached out to Microsoft if it’s interested in buying their platform, and Xbox chief Phil Spencer is currently leading the talks.
Bloomberg also noted that two sources informed it that Discord has also held discussions with Epic Games and Amazon, but representatives from both companies declined to comment.
Discord announced back on June 20 that its marketing strategy will move away from focusing on its gaming-centric appeal and would try to be inclusive to everyone, attracting non-gamers to their platform.
