Activision Blizzard is going to focus on mobile gaming and bring more titles to the platform as it generates more revenue from PC and console games.
According to Activision Blizzard’s latest earnings report the company’s earnings from the mobile platform exceeded both the PC and console platforms.
For the quarter ended December 31, Activision Blizzard made $633 million from mobile and ancillary revenue (32% of the company’s total revenue), which is a 12% in revenue increase when compared to its final three months of 2018, the mobile revenue was $596 million (25% of the company’s total revenue).
The company has had massive success with Call of Duty Mobile, the game was installed over 150 million times across iOS and Android devices.
“With the introduction of Call of Duty Mobile, we grew our player base from 40 million to 100 million in less than a year,” said Kotick, “and we expect significant growth in the Call of Duty franchise in 2020 as compared to 2019 as a result of this and another unannounced Call of Duty initiative.”
The upcoming Activision Blizzard game that will be coming to mobile is Diablo, The first alpha test for Diablo Immortal will begin during 2020, Activision Blizzard has confirmed.
Although mobile gaming is generating the most revenue for Activision Blizzard, PC and console titles still remain an important revenue for the company, it’s safe to say that they will continue to make new titles.
Rumors have suggested that we might even see the popular game Overwatch as a mobile game, especially after it already made it to the Nintendo Switch, making it playable on PC, Console, and the Switch.
