Twitch announced the addition of a category for Sports on its streaming platform.
Sports content isn’t new to streaming and has existed on Twitch for a while now. Twitch has made yet another step forward by adding a dedicated category for sports, the streaming website that started off with gaming but quickly branched out to other sources of content.
To celebrate the addition, Twitch is collaborating with four of soccer’s biggest teams from around the world, Real Madrid, Arsenal, Juventus, and Paris Saint-Germain. The clubs will be posting content on their own Twitch channels “to bring their global fanbases closer to these iconic organizations and their athletes.”
The NBA, NHL, NWSL, RFL, and UFC have already relied on Twitch to post their content there. Amazon has partnered with streamers to co-broadcast Thursday Night NFL football games, as well.
The streaming platform also holds professional athletes who enjoy streaming to their fans, such as NFL’s Austin Ekeler, F1’s Lando Norris, and WWE wrestler Paige.
This move will positively impact Twitch’s viewership, branching to viewers that might have never even heard of the streaming platform and thus attracting those that want to keep up with the sports and athletes they enjoy.
