Popular Twitch streamer Imane “Pokimane” Anys announced that she has partnered with the University of California, Irvine (UCI) to launch a student scholarship dedicated to students pursuing Esports career.

Pokimane is known for playing both popular games, League of Legends and Fortnite, and has grown a massive fan base over the years. Pokimane will be donating $50,000 to sponsor four students under her program, the students will be selected by the University itself.

Starting in 2022, a student under the UCI Esports Pokimane scholarship will receive $2,500 every year. This amount will be used to fund the students’ tuition and educational fees.

“I love being able to share my experience of how I got to where I am today in hopes that it will help others who are on their way. I’m also especially happy to be supporting UCI’s esports program because their students are focusing on gaming in addition to pursuing their college degrees – which, I can say from experience, isn’t easy!” Pokimane said in a statement.

The scholarship is set to help young talents to pursue their dream in competitive gaming as it can be difficult for full-time college students to earn a degree and pursue an esports career at the same time.

“They are pursuing esports while getting a degree in school,” she said. “Which, I know from experience, is so freaking hard.”

Esports has been growing over the years, with the whole scene taken more seriously and can be life-changing for a lot of young talents. Initiatives from popular celebrities in the esports scene such as Pokimane’s is sure to give a boost to the evolving industry.
